The Girls’ Brigade

The Girls’ Brigade is a Christian organisation for girls aged from 5 to 14+.  The aim of the Brigade is to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and, through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility, to find true enrichment of life.

The company is divided into four sections -

Explorers (5 - 8 years),
Juniors (8 - 11 years),
Seniors (11 - 14 years) and
Brigaders (14 + years.)

(Meeting times are in our Weekly Fellowship News)

Prayer Bear. All Sections have a devotional time.  We encourage all girls to say a prayer with the help of a “Prayer Bear”.  We also encourage the girls to attend the church parades on the second Sunday of each month and weekly Sunday School.

The girls work for badges under four headings - Spiritual, Physical, Educational, and Service.  We have meals together with the older girls and spend time talking and sharing with each other.

We make gifts for the older people of the church at Christmas time and visit establishments for the elderly to provide entertainment.  We take part in church activities and help to decorate church windows for the Easter and Harvest celebrations.

As a company, we try to emphasise the importance of having fun while we work and play as one big family together.

Incidentally, older readers (particularly) might be interested (or amused) to see a couple of pictures from our Brigade in its younger years, when it was known as the Girls’ Life Brigade - click here to follow the link and see who you remember!
