The Boys’ Brigade

The Boys’ Brigade organisation (or BB for short) was originally founded by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883.  Our company started up in 1969.

The BB motto is “Sure and Steadfast”, based on words from Hebrews ch.6, verse19, and the object of the BB is: “The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.”

Our company is divided into 4 sections, comprising :-

Anchor Boys (5 - 8 years),
Juniors (8 - 11 years),
Company Section (11 - 16 years) and
Seniors (16 - 18 years.)
All our Sections meet on a Wednesday evening (details are on our Weekly Fellowship News), and the boys enjoy taking part in a wide range of activities, including handicrafts, working for badges, games, music, figure marching and drill, and learning about the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.  (You might like to read one Junior boy’s story)

Our company is part of a local zone, or Battalion, and during the year we take part in inter-company competitions, such as football, swimming, quiz and handicrafts, as well as fun events for the youngest boys.

Our boys are also encouraged to attend our church parades, which are held on the 2nd Sunday mornings of most months in the year.
