The Boys’ Brigade
The Boys’ Brigade organisation (or BB for short) was originally founded by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883.The BB motto is “Sure and Steadfast”, based on words from Hebrews ch.6, verse19, and the object of the BB is: “The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.”
Our company was formed in 1968 with Jim Parker as one of the lieutenants. Jim subsequently took over as captain and has served our Company continuously ever since but, following health issues and a declining number of boys, we are sad to announce that the 1st Whitstable Boys’ Brigade company closed at the end of 2012.
It was a sad day but we can look back on 44 years of service, teaching boys about the love of Christ.
